A clear nitrite reagent enquiry identifies the analyser, analytical method and reporting basis. The words “nitrite” and “nitrite-nitrogen” can describe different numerical expressions of a result, so the units must be recorded precisely.

Online Reagents is backed by PMA’s chemical-manufacturing experience of more than 52 years. Send your specification online to discuss suitable supply, availability and quantity before confirming an order.

Do not confuse nitrite with nitrate

Nitrite and nitrate are different analytes. A nitrate method, reagent or standard should not be substituted simply because both relate to nitrogen monitoring. Hach’s nitrogen-analysis information distinguishes these related measurement requirements.

Some instruments report combined or calculated quantities. Confirm exactly what the selected programme measures before choosing a reagent set.

Copy the reporting basis exactly

Record whether the display and method specify nitrite or nitrite expressed as nitrogen. Include the complete units, range and method name. Do not compare two numerical results without first checking their reporting basis.

This detail matters when specifying standards, recording results and discussing a replacement kit. If documentation is unclear, send the manual or screenshot with the enquiry rather than guessing.

Match the measurement principle

Our online nitrite reagents page discusses UV and colorimetric approaches. These do not imply one interchangeable reagent requirement. Identify the particular analyser’s method and whether it uses a reagent system at all.

Use the approved sample procedure

Sampling and handling should follow the site’s validated method. Do not borrow preservation instructions from a different nitrogen test without checking suitability. Where sample preparation or interference checks are required, include that information when discussing reagent compatibility.

What to provide when requesting supply

Include the instrument make and model, method number, nitrite reporting basis, working range, existing kit or solution specification and expected quantity. Explain whether the requirement is for routine reagent replacement, a standard or both.

Ask for suitable storage information, shelf life and supporting documentation for the proposed material. Availability and suitability can then be confirmed before an order is agreed.

Can a combined nitrogen result replace a nitrite result?

Not automatically. A combined measurement does not necessarily identify the separate nitrite concentration. Follow the monitoring requirement and approved analytical method, and make the required reported quantity explicit in the enquiry.
