Online iron monitors use colorimetry to determine the iron concentration in water.

Iron analysers are typically found in both the drinking water production process and in wastewater applications where iron is dosed into the water as a coagulant. Ensuring iron has been removed from the final water leaving the plant (whether that be in the final drinking water or in the effluent discharge to the environment in wastewater) can be achieved.

There are a number of different colorimetric chemistries that can be used for online iron analysers, which is best depends upon the application. As a reagent manufacturer, PMA can offer ferrozine, phenanthroline or TPTZ (2,4,6-Tris(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine) based chemistry for our colorimeters. We also offer chemistries for Ferrous (Fe2+), Ferric (Fe3+) and Total iron (Fe2+/ Fe3+).
